I had hodgkins lymphoma for approximately 2 years according to my oncologist before a lump showed up on my neck and I got it checked out. She told me that I had five years to live.
You may learn of your diagnosis after a routine screening or exam after months or years of coping with undiagnosed symptoms or even after just feeling like something is off.
How long did you have lymphoma before diagnosis. I have a high grade lymphoma which means it grows fast and was probably around for two or three months before I noticed symptoms. Low grade lymphomas grow at a slower rate and accordingly can go undetected for longer if as in my case the individual doesnt notice early symptoms and the later symptoms arent necessarily specific to lymphoma. Hard to tell because I was pregant and had a newborn shortly before diagnoses with CHL stage 4b but I noticed itching for about 2 months before and fatigue and back pain for about 4 months before.
My understanding is that CHL is pretty aggressive and unlikely to have been with you. I had a collarbone lymph gland appear approx. 4 years before diagnosis.
This was the same collarbone lymph gland they removed on biopsy approx. 4 years later showing it was Hodgkins. I had hodgkins lymphoma for approximately 2 years according to my oncologist before a lump showed up on my neck and I got it checked out.
I likely had Hodgkins for 2-3 years before getting diagnosed. By then I was stage 3 thankfully. In my case my story will begin with how my cancer was NOT diagnosed.
I was never one to go to doctors for little things but in the fall of 1996 I began running a low grade fever complete loss of appetite general malaise and pelvic pain that persisted for seven months. How long can Lymphoma go undetected. I dont know what is going on with me but my symptoms seem to me to point to Lymphoma.
It started a year ago with really low fever 100 degrees max that came and went for several weeks chest pain fatigue that made it hard to do anything and a lump that popped up in my groin. He did have a gallium scan at that time which showed uptake at 24 hrs but resolved at 48 giving it a negative result. Could some of you who have fought this share with me their experience how long it took to get diagnosed and what type of treatment is used.
Thanks ahead of time. One symptom that I had that Ive never heard before- for 3 or 4 months before I was diagnosed I had terrible constant pain in my neck and shoulders like I had been in a car accident. Log in or register to post comments.
The doctor who did my biopsy told me it was probably a thyroid problem so in my case its just as well they did biopsy. If its still there in a few weeks Id go back. Also even if it is lymphoma and its indolent most people go on watch and wait with no treatment.

At the time I was 39 years old and hadnt been to the doctor for at least five years. For several months before my diagnosis I had a recurring headache on the right side of. Thats because theyre often diagnosed early on before symptoms develop.
The 5-year survival rate for people with localized breast or prostate cancer is nearly 100 percent. Six hours after the CAT Scan was done I found myself in front of the Mast Cell doctor as she sheepishly told me I had Lymphoma. It was not a Mast Cell disorder after all.
She told me that I had five years to live. My first reaction was total disbelief. Micro calicifications showed up on mammogram and I was advised to come back for repeat mammo in six months.
Within those six months I developed a large somewhat dense-feeling area not a lump really which was painful. Turns out it was a large tumor 51cm that had developed since my mammo and doctor exam both less than six months earlier.
